best chocolatesChocolate, when you think about them and the first thing that comes to your mind is the scrumptious euphoria you experience when it melts into your mouth ummmm………… Indulging in chocolates induces a state of happiness similar to that of being in love. Ti is also thought of as a mild anti- depressant. Small, dark and irresistibly handsome, few people can deny the fatal attraction to chocolate. A chocolate generally used by lovers to express their coquette for their partner. The researchers today have found a good reason to call chocolate a super food.

Here are some pros and cons regarding indulging in chocolates…

PROS…..

Researchers at the Heinrich University in Germany exposed regular chocolate eaters to UV light and found that after six weeks they had 15% less skin reddening than the non-eaters. After 12 weeks, they found that the chocolate eaters skin was 16% denser, 13% more moist and 42% less scaly. Pure chocolate contains anti-oxidants which aid better skin complexion. But chocolate bars with milk may contribute to acne. It is not the chocolate that causes acne but the milk with which the chocolate is mixed.

  • Brain booster:

The recent brain study done on  healthy women at British University found flavanol- rich cocoa increased the flow of blood to the brains for two or three hours. So next time you go for an exam don’t forget to carry your bar of chocolate.

  • Fatigue relief:

After eating 45gm of chocolate daily for 8 weeks, chronic fatigue syndrome patients were less tired than when fed placebos. It is believed that the chocolates boost the neurotransmitters that regulate sleep and mood.

CONS…..

Most of the chocolate is energy- dense: you get lot of calories in a relatively smaller volume. Half the saturated fat in chocolate is stearic acid, which doesn’t increase “bad” LDL blood cholesterol and raises “good” HDL cholesterol. And high fat content helps to control the glucose in the system. This means that the chocolate is not bad for people with diabetes. Too much chocolate though pleasant to the taste buds, may play havoc with your waistline
