IT IS TIME TO CHANGE
Just stop copying those laboratory files, stop making those diagrams which you can't make sense of, stop mugging up books which you don't like to study and stop doing anything which you don't want to. When you do that, you will suddenly feel a vacuum in your mind. A feeling where you won't know what you do. Yes, stop for some moments. And then, start thinking. Is this what you want to do all your life? Copying, mugging up, forcing yourself? Stop to think what you want to do. Set a goal in life. Don't do things the way everyone is doing. Carve your own path.
But then again, why should you do this? You need to do this because the world does not need people who do the same things over and over again. The world needs innovations all the time. We need people who do things better each time. Do it because it is what you require, not because of someone else's wants.
Make your life constructive. When you live life your way, you have all the time for yourselves. Wishes don't go unfulfilled, hard work keeps you busy and makes you happy, and your smile multiplies on thousands of faces. You help improve the world with your selfish efforts which don’t seem selfish anymore.
Use your creativity to do the thing it is supposed to: Create. The ability to innovate brings with itself the feeling of satisfaction. It motivates you to work more. Make the world around you a better place and you build your own paradise here.
Start a revolution in your heart. Bring out the courage from its hiding. Live the life you have been given. And spread some life too.
And if ever you write something you want to present to others, send it at dcetimes@dce.edu. We would be happy to pass on your message!

ANTI-RAGGING AFFIDAVIT
“19 Rusticated in JNU | 3 Expelled in IIT-M | 4 meet the same fate in AIIMS”
This academic session is turning out to be a nightmare for senior students across the city. Supreme Court has wisely laid down rules this time round against ragging. As a result, freshers and their parents are surely happy. Now these freshers are fearlessly roaming in the campus, without having to think twice about being caught by a senior and performing for their entertainment or running amok to get work done for them, or hiding in a corner in the hostel at night. This surely is only one side of the story.
College is a place where students learn. Learn not only about the subjects as a part of their curriculum but also learn about life. Students of all years alike, learn how to deal with the world outside the protective shell endowed by their parents and teachers till date. They interact with each other, compete against each other, help, share, give, take, love, hate each other.
Over the years, the tradition of interaction between seniors and juniors has changed forms. Good, bad. From mere exchange of name, hobbies and a few joking stunts; this interaction has now taken the evil shape of forcing juniors to do idiotic jobs, mocking at them in groups. In short, they make their first few weeks hell.Agreed! The monstrous image of seniors projected is not too far from the truth in most cases but surely not everywhere.
Sadly, now the law of the land states that any senior found “ragging” should be expelled. And the definition of “ragging” has been extended to mere interaction. And, in the recent wake of events, a few colleges have advised seniors against letting juniors visit their rooms and vice versa. There are CCTVs installed at every nook and corner, making you feel like prisoners in a jail.
How are they now supposed to inform the newcomers about various societies, courses, old books, the precious notes? How, if they never come to know about each other, can they break the ice and come together to have a nice time ever? Are we supposed to accept the fact that henceforth, every small action will come under the scanner and seniors and freshers alike will be harassed whenever they interact for genuine purposes too?
A law passed is always full of lacunae. This one is for sure as much for the better as for the worse. Unless things are balanced out and the authorities know where to look rather than rounding up everybody for questioning, college life cannot get back to normal.

INNER HAPPINESS
It is a hot summer day and you feel thirsty. Your friend offers you a glass of refreshing cold lemonade. How do you feel when you see the glass and when you drink it?The feeling which you experience, you’ll probably describe as happiness or pleasure. There is a connection between the two and at times one evokes the other, but they definitely aren’t the same. Pleasure is something more dependent on your five senses while happiness on the other hand is independent of these. A good feeling that you experience as eating a delicacy, enjoying a party or while engaging yourself in a joyous activity, doing something constructive with the five senses and depending on the people, objects and circumstances is pleasure.
The physical world around us is in a state of flux. Each moment a thing is created, changed, sustained, transformed and destroyed. We can’t change this normal state of affairs. No state ever remains as it is. And we experience unhappiness as the circumstances change with the changes not according to our liking. Nothing, on the contrary can influence our moods if we exercise detachment.
Happiness is considered as one of the greatest positive attributes which thus directs our efforts towards yearning for happiness right from the birth. Analyzing our actions, we notice that all our actions are directed towards attainment of happiness. As soon as our circumstances are according to our liking, we are exuberantly happy and in the other cases, we feel miserable. The former happens as a problem is solved, a burden lifted or a desire fulfilled, someone loves you, something happens that puts an end to a worry, a fear the mind comes to calm .The room of the mind filled with desire, worry or fear is then emptied and a feeling of joy, ease and inner peace encompasses us.
So the next time you experience happiness, watch your mind and see what’s happening. You’ll notice a serene arena freed from the constant chatter.
Happiness isn’t something very far away from us, or unattainable, nor are objects and events its causes. It is an inseparable part of the conscious.Happiness, as I feel, is from inside us. The sun of happiness is always there, sometimes obscured by the clouds of thoughts, worry and desire. It is just a dispersal of those thoughts that’s needed to let the shine out, within ourselves. You can’t see the jewels at the bottom of a stormy and muddy lake though they are there. You’ve got to make the water stay still, calm the storms, let the mud sink and then can you see them. The treasure is there whether you see it or not, and so is Happiness!
